HEAT EXHAUSTION Vs HEAT STROKE
Heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke both should be recognized and treated properly. Heat exhaustion is caused when the body is able to sustain normal functions because of extreme loss of body fluids and salts. The symptoms of heat exhaustion are profound sweating, thirst, dizziness, leading to the loss in sense as well as coordination vomiting sensation that is commonly known as nausea, vomiting, cool, moist skin, very weak and unhealthy feeling, headache, low breathing and fast pulse. The necessary measures to be taken are apply wet cloths and fan vigorously, avoid strenuous activity for at least a day, lie down with feet elevated, remove victim to a shaded place or cool area. Heat exhaustion condition will often occur when people exercise in a hot or humid place and sweat more which causes the body to overheat and the temperature may be elevated not above 104 degree F.
Heat stroke is caused due to overheating of body which may even lead to death. First the brain gets damaged due to heat stroke and all the other internal organs slowly get damaged and ends fatal. When the temperature hits more than 105 degree F then it leads to heat stroke. The symptoms of the heat stroke are red or hot dry skin, dilated pupils, strong and rapid pulse, extreme disorientation, unconsciousness and possibly convulsions. The measures to taken are cool the individual by sponging the body with cool water or wrapping in wet sheets, move to the cool or shaded area, do not give the victim anything to drink including water, loosen tight clothes should be worn.
